Hollidays...

I just came back from a spur of the moment holiday trip to Johor. It all started with a phone call from my friend, asking if we should do a short trip to Johor. Considering the pathetic weekend which was starring rite at my face, I quickly agreed. I was still sick and have just visited the clinic 1 hour before leaving to Johor. So with no plans or watsoever, 3 of us drove down to JB at 10pm. There we met up another one of our machan who happens to be married and sort of settled down in JB (for the time being at least).

Once in JB we spent the nite surfing the net looking for things that we can do with minimal planning. That is when we came across the idea of waterfalls. The next morning, it was trip to Gunung Belumut, where our adventure began :D. The place was quite hidden deep in palm oil estate. N it took us quite sometime to actually find the waterfalls itself, as the journey there was quite tricky. All the trouble and obstacles in getting to this place was really worth for the experience we had there. The place was perfect to unwind myself from the stress and routine of work. We spent few hours there enjoying ourselves in the water.

After the waterfalls, we headed down to Mersing, in hope of spending the nite in town and possibly go to one of the islands the next morning. We spent almost 3 hours trying to find for a place to stay. Unbelievably, all the place was fully booked. No thanks to the 'labour day' public holiday, all the hotels in Mersing was fully booked. We didn't have much option, so we ended up spending the nite in the car. It was not a pleasant experience sleeping in the car, but overall it was something to remember. While we were there, we had to shower in some dodgy backpackers lodge. That reminded me of my backpacking trip to Thailand 2 years back.

Lacking of things to do in Mersing, the next morning we decided to head down to another waterfalls. N this time it was Pulai Falls. The Pulai Falls was a bit of a disappointment as it was all dry. After talking to some locals there, we found out that the waterfalls was never the same after the 2001 incident where a landslide happened at the foot of Gunung Pulai during heavy monsoon season (I later verified this news and found this). It seems, the waterflow of the falls was altered during the landslide that now there's not much water flowing in it's old path. All we manage to do there was enjoy the scenery and drive rite to the top of Gunung Pulai where there's an Army Camp. Though the Pulai Falls itself was disappointing, the view from the top of the mountain made it up. The view was unbelievably wonderful.

Later that nite, we had a short bowling game in town, and I sucked at it biiiiggg time. Got my all time low record. Sheeeshhh... Well that was pretty much the short version of the trip, I'm always free for cup of tea n perhaps nice meal, after which I can go into more details :P.

Overall, it was an excellent trip. I should do more of this.
