Apple ...

For the past few weeks, my Powerbook has been acting up. All of sudden it became sluggish, crashed while using any random app, and that was driving me mad as I couldn't place what the whole problem was about. Then finally the machine itself was kind enough to tell me that the hard disk was dying. Sigh ... I just had it replaced 2 years back, and now it's acting up all over again. Lucky for me, it's still under warranty.

Not wanting to pay the service center 150 bucks just to open up the machine and retrieve the hard disk for me to send it for warranty claim, I decided to open it up on my own. Initially I thought this going to be the last time the machine going to be in one piece, but after managing to open up the case and get to the hard drive, it gave me all new confidence. I think, now I can repair any other problems with this machine as long as I know what is the actual problem.

Have already sent in the hard drive for warranty claim. Believe it or not, it's going to take 3 weeks for the drive to be either repaired or replaced. It seems, they've got to send it all the way to Singapore to sort it out. My godd, that means I'm stuck with my other machine which runs MS Vista. MS Vista for next 3 weeks???, that doesn't sound like a good thing. I truly hate Vista, it's an ass of an OS as far as I'm corncerned. Hmmm, let's see how the next 3 week goes by with Vista ...

Here it is, picture of my sick Apple... :(

Update ...

Let's not even go down the path of how long I've not updated. I will always have an excuse for it.

Anyway got some update on the car. It's slowly beginning to look like how I wanted it to be from beginning . The paint job is already done, now still playing around with the interior of the car. I think it will take at least another month or so to get everything sorted. That's given I have enough time to work on the car. Here's a little peek on how the car looked 2 weeks back, I haven't got the time time to snap the latest photos.

Will post some more photos soon.

Random thoughts ...

I was watching this interesting documentary in Discovery Channel the other nite. It was "Disaster Detective". I guess the name says all about the show. Well, they were covering this particular incident in Korea in that show, the collapse of the Samppoong Department Store. Throughout the show, they highlighted series of events and also decisions made by morons that spelled the end of the Departmental Store. Numerous shortcuts that was taken during the construction of the building, (possibly to save money) had made the building a ticking time bomb. And the decision of the owner of the building to keep the building opened for business even after the building was declared not safe, sealed the doom for 500 + shoppers who were trapped and killed in the collapse. Oook, why am I talking about all this?

Watching that show made me to think, how safe are the buildings and malls in our country? How good are the safety equipments and evacuations process in all this mega malls? In our country, most of the time, issues and problems will only come out when there's a big loss of life in a particular incident. It's more like a knee jerk reaction. When an incident happens, the pointing finger first starts, followed by discovery of corruption and mistakes and finally the drastic and sometimes unreasonable and quick fix solutions are devised. It's as if to pacify the angry public.

Take the bus accident that killed 20 + people recently, that incident alone highlighted many loop holes and weaknesses in our transportation system. From unpaid summonses of busses, drives with lack of sleep and also the horrible conditions of some of the busses and not forgetting the failed penalty system for drivers.

Putting this into perspective, would we only know safety of the buildings in our country when one of it crumbles and sacrifices many innocent lives? I'm no expert in building safety and maintenance industry, but I'm sure there are routine safety checks on building structure, safety equipment and evacuation processes. My only hope is, people who are actually carrying out such tasks takes no shortcut. It's quite scary to think of the implication of such event. I know for a fact that a particular high rise building here trembles every time there's earthquake in the neighboring country, I'm not sure if that supposed to be normal. Every time that happens, the staffs are evacuated from the building and after that life is back to normal. I really hope adequate safety measures and maintenance are done in all our buildings.

I know we have morons in some important government offices, but my hope is, pls do not screw the general public by ur incompetence. I think the show have effected me quite deeply. I 'hope', something like the incident in Sampoong Departmental store will not happen here.

Hope is a good thing, maybe the best of things, and no good thing ever dies. - Shawshank Redemption.

Bravery ....

It's been a quiet Saturday, but nevertheless a productive one. Spent the whole day by myself. Got few pending chores sorted out. The biggest and the bravest has to be my second hepatitis shot.

That's right, I went and got my hepatitis shot without being told, begged or scolded :D . That's a good sign I guess. I think, maybe.... just maybe, I might have overcome my fear of needles. This time around, I didn't pull any drama or major stunt in front of the doctor, seconds before he poked me. Well I guess the presence of a gorgeous-homely-unmarried nurse helped alot :D. Come to think of it, the nurse is exactly the type that I will not hesitate to go out with. At least she looks like that type. I think the next major phobia that I need to work on would be, blood donation. My fear of needle was so bad that till now, I don't really know my blood type. Maybe it's time for me to do a full blood check also.

Thought ...

Earlier in the day I had an interesting thought, hmmm, more like doubt actually. If any government in the world found out that an asteroid is on direct path with earth and there's no way out of it, would they tell the general public? Or would it be kept away?

If the government keeps it secret, then it's routine life till disaster strikes. It's unimaginable to go around doing everyday activity without knowing that a disaster is on it's way to change life forever and maybe even to end human life on earth altogether. Probably in such situation, death will be less painful as the anticipation of something bad going to happen will not be there. It would be more an instant death. But then again, would I want to die that way? Not knowing what happened ?

Or if the government do decide to announce it, how would the situation would be then? Total chaos, and uncertainty? It will signal the total breakdown of law and order I presume. People will not be very much in control of their emotions, things will be pretty ugly I guess.

Come to think of it, I think I'll rather not know about it. Just go about my daily routine as normal till... ooopsie...

Aaanyway ... the bodywork on the car is almost done. Pending some minor welding work. The shop dude is taking forever to get it finished. In a way it's good also as the more the delay, the higher the chance my brother will be around to monitor the whole progress.

Since the car will be ready for painting after the body work, I wanted to get all the other major work done before sending it for painting. There's still 2 major work pending for the car. One is the aircon system and the other is installing the brake servo pump. As for the aircon, I've started looking for the parts already. From all the survey, I think it's goin to cost quite a bomb to get the aircon bit sorted. Well, that'll be the work for next week I think, to go buy the parts.

Another beauty.

Grill ...

Yesterday was a bummer. Office was boring as usual, with no challenges provided to my mental ability. Lacking of things to do, in the afternoon I caught up with another office mate, we went roaming to look for some stuffs. After roaming about, we ended up in one car workshop looking for some parts for the Mini. I finally found a used front grill for the Mini. It was much cheaper then I expected it would be. So today morning, I spent time cleaning it n now it looks brand spanking new. It's all shinny now. Here the picture of it.

Went to visit the car in the workshop today, it's still work in progress. No major development compared to my last visit. Here a pic of the fella showing off his bruised and battered ass.

Apart from that, had a good squash game workout. Really sweated it out.
